Once upon a
time, when the actual bazaars were starting to charge higher prices, in Phase
8, the Sunday bazaar took place which provided all kinds of actual and 2nd
hand materials in affordable price. The price was so affordable that soon all
the housewives and children would badger their husbands and fathers to give up
there Sundays in order to soak in sun and drench in sweat to either get a
branded bag more than half the price of actual or buy sneakers in ‘almost’ free
pricing strategy!
Soon, the
popularity were such that not only you could get branded and foreign stuff, you
could get the ‘Pakistani’ stuff easily too. The sales man put stalls of carpet
to cutlery and anything to everything could be found there. Such was the vibe
that it was made into a proper market. When at first you get all dirty and
sweaty, they made lanes and benches and food court for people to enjoy. When you
first don’t even bathe when coming to Sunday bazaars because you would anyway
get dirty, people started to come dressed properly to buy things. When there
was a slight hesitation in admitting that ‘I bought it from Sunday bazaar!’ Now,
there was no hesitation in the flaunting of Sunday bazaar goodies.
Then, all of a
sudden, the Sunday bazaar closed down and people got so shocked to where to buy
branded things as every other place was so pricey. Many rumors got out on why
the Sunday bazaar closed down but no one till now knows the actual reason. Many
attempts were made to re-initiate it but to loss!
Now, recently in
2017, they opened a Sunday bachat bazaar and it flourished. Things were amazing
and cheap and foreign. Everything from the decorations to clothing to cutlery was
cheap and good in quality. People were very happy but after a month or two of
having these bazaar, the ‘awaam’ (public) got another disappointment that it’s
closing down yet again.
The reason now
is because of the NADIS (lanes of water) and NULAAHS (nala also lanes) can get
clogged up. As Dry Malir River bed soaks rain water. To me, it is a very vague
and stupid reason. Sunday bazaar was very convenient and was catering to those
who couldn’t afford such pricey items. And could still be trendy. The most
amazing part of Sunday bazaar was after the ‘khuwari’ of sun and sweat, the
haul you get was very satisfying.
I hope they
re-initiate the Sunday bazaar!
Thank you.
